The Department of Commerce started functioning since the inception of the college in the year 1948 and it has been successfully teaching Honours in Accountancy since 1970. Since the inception, so many teachers served this department with whole- hearted devotion and care. Mention, among them, must be made of Prof. Aditya Chatterjee, Prof. Bhavani Prasad Chakroborty, Prof. Sashadhar Koley, Dr. Debaprasad Samanta, Prof. Monimohan Nandi, Prof Murari Ghosh, Prof. Nabakumar Ghosh and Prof. Jayanta Nandi.
In fact, the department has been carrying on a glorious tradition over the years. Not only the departmental results but also the students’ successful engagement in different spheres of the society (CA/ICWA/Teaching/Professor at college and university level/Bank and Insurance sectors) are also remarkable.
To meet the present industrial needs and to promote professional business education among the students equivalent to other B-School at reasonable cost, BBA (H) is running as the new wing of our college since 2010.
Though the number of sanctioned teaching post for the Department is five, at present both the departments are managed by four full-time, two part-time teachers and four Guest Teachers.
The Departmental Library started in the year 2007 and now it is well equipped with 175 books (Text and Reference) for the use of the students as well as the teachers. The Department introduced a Wall Magazine named ‘SAMPAD’ since 2007.
We, the faculty members of the department, do hope that the department will be able to keep up the glorious tradition even in the long run.
